Hello and welcome to my class. My name is Mrs Thwaite and I have been a teacher at Ystrad Mynach Primary for nine years. As well as being a class teacher I also have responsibility for leading English throughout the school and mentoring Newly Qualified Teachers.
This term we have been busy writing newspaper reports and creating our own parodies in English. So far in maths we have covered many aspects such as multiplication, shape and problem solving activities. We have been learning about electricity and circuits in science and we have been studying life in the nineteenth century for our history topic.
We have been fortunate enough to have already enjoyed a class trip to Big Pit in Blaenavon this term. This really helped us to understand the lives of children who worked in the coal mines in the 19th century.
I believe that learning should be fun and exciting. I also believe that trying your best and making an effort deserves rewards. Pupils are given house points to reward hard work, good behaviour and a positive attitude. Each week in my class there is a reward for Group of the Week and Pupil of the Week. Pupils in my class have personal targets to work towards as well as class targets which we all share and aim to achieve together.
Year 6 is an important year marking the end of primary school and preparing the pupils for the next stage of their learning journey.
