Croeso i Dosbarth Porffor! - Welcome to Purple Class!

What are we learning!

Our class is a mix of Year 1 and Year 2 children and we have had a great time this term making new friends with all the new children we have met.  Our teacher is Miss Symes, and our assistants are: Mrs Cooper, Mrs Beytell and Mrs Hooper.

We are a cheerful, enthusiastic class and Miss Symes says we are a joy to teach.  We have been working really hard at our literacy this term.  So far we have recounted the stories of ‘Joseph’s Coat’ and ‘Handa’s Hen’ and have written our own stories about ‘The Duck who was afraid of the Water’.  We really enjoyed our history topic on Florence Nightingale and we pretended to be Florence so that we could write letters home from the Crimean War.  In Numeracy we enjoy trying to solve problems with time, money, shapes and numbers.

Every week we have a lesson in the ICT suite.  We learn how to use difference computer programmes and internet sites which help us with our class work.  This really helps us become more confident in our ICT skills.  We also visit the school library once a week where we carry out group literacy activities.  We love the library lessons – we get to explore the reference books, use the computers and listening centre and enjoy a huge selection of story books.  We are turning into real bookworms!  Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Wednesday every week.

We have also been learning all about Remembrance Day and have made our own paper craft poppies in class.  We will be putting our poppy together into a wreath and it will be displayed in the infant hall along with our written work and ICT work on Poppy Day.  Our work on Remembrance Day has really helped us understand how important it is to say thank you to others.

We always aim for excellence in everything we do and we have produced lots of pieces of work that we are very proud of.  We enjoy celebrating our successes together with our friends and like to listen to one another read out good pieces of work at the end of lessons.  We use a class star chart as a reward system where we collect stars through the week for good behaviour and good work.  We then count the stars up on Friday to find the star of the week.

We have had some fantastic trips and visitors already this year.  We went to a special harvest service at the Baptist Church and have had visits from P.C. Winfield and Mrs Tufty.  We are off to the pantomime at Christmas and we can’t wait!
